About
Us
MIDC (Mercian Ice Dance
Club) is affiliated to NISA (National Ice Skating Association) and has all the
relevant insurances in place. Our books are regularly audited by a qualified
accountant.
MIDC has gone from strength to strength. In 2004 we obtained Awards for All
lottery funding to assist with holding our first Mercian Ice Dance Club Open
Competitions, consisting of British Solo Ice Dance Qualifier, British Accredited
Ice Dance Event for couples and our own Mercian Ice Dance Open - all of which
were very successful and we understand we are the first Ice Dance Club to be
awarded lottery funding, so we are very proud. We held Mercian Ice Dance Club
Open Competitions and the British Ice Dance Solo Qualifiers again in April 2005
at Coventry Arena. In 2006 again we obtained Awards for All lottery funding
to host the British Solo Ice Dance Qualifiers in Solihull
Since 2000
each year we hold a successful Ice Dance Workshop. In
2006/2007/2008/2009 Master Coach Vivienne Dean with Duncan Lenard and Lynn Burton
held very successful workshops. In 2010 the Workshop was coached by Master Coaches
Jimmy Young & Vivienne Dean with Colin Sturgess, 60 persons attended and
all agreed it was a successful event.
MIDC joined the Central League of the RIDL (Recreational
Ice Dance League) in 2002, when we won the Senior Competition. We are proud
to have won the Senior Competition and Junior sections in 2003.
In 2004 we were invited to join in the Northern Ice Dance League which gives younger skaters in our club a chance to compete.
We
have 10 internal competitions per annum, some for juniors and some for seniors.
From January 2005 we relocated Mercian Ice Dance Club to Solihull Ice Rink meeting mostly Sunday evenings, guests and potential new members are most welcome (Please always check Mercian Diary). The first part of Dance Club is for Dance Lessons and Practice, the last half hour is purely a Dance Interval and our resident coaches (Duncan Lenard, Lynn Burton, Colin Sturgess) often stay to skate with everyone.
In May 2005 we were awarded £100 by Powergen, as MIDC were selected as a winner for providing good club facilities for skaters over 60 years of age, in addition to younger members.
CURRENTLY a Full Years Membership is £35 for an adult and £20.00 for youth under 18 years. Guests are welcome to attend prior to deciding whether to join. The cost of Skating Fees for the two hours are, members £10.00 and guests £12.00. Normally if skaters take part in the group lesson learning to ice dance with one of our qualified professional coaches an addition £3 is charged at registration.
In
the summer of 2010 for 12 weeks we had two special courses, namely the NISA
Passport and Learning to Ice Dance taken by Duncan Lenard and Colin Sturgess
respectively. These courses were FREE as they were sponsored by the Solihull
Community Foundation with Comic Relief Fund to enhance the community spirit
and assist people to take up a sport related activity, there were 12 persons
in each group who become members of Mercian therefore also helping the future
of Mercian Ice Dance Club Solihull.
